Translucent Sea Blue Vinyl
David Gilmour
Release Date: September 6, 2024
David Gilmour’s latest album, “Luck and Strange,” marks his return to new material after nine years.
Recorded in Brighton and London over a span of five months, the album showcases Gilmour’s collaboration with producer Charlie Andrew, recognized for his work with ALT-J and Marika Hackman.
The lyrics, primarily penned by Polly Samson, Gilmour’s co-writer for three decades, add depth to the eight original tracks featured on the album.
One notable inclusion is a reimagined version of The Montgolfier Brothers’ “Between Two Points,” featuring Romany Gilmour on vocals and harp, who also provides backing vocals throughout the album.
A lineup of talented musicians contributes to the record, including Guy Pratt and Tom Herbert on bass, Adam Betts, Steve Gadd, and Steve DiStanislao on drums, and Rob Gentry and Roger Eno on keyboards.
Will Gardner’s string and choral arrangements further enrich the musical landscape.
Of special significance is the title track, which features a posthumous recording of Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright, captured during a “Barn Jam” session at Gilmour’s residence in 2007.
The album’s cover, crafted by renowned artist Anton Corbijn, draws inspiration from lyrics penned by Charlie Gilmour for the closing song, “Scattered.”
Available as a translucent sea blue vinyl LP, the album boasts a gatefold sleeve and booklet adorned with photography and design by Anton Corbijn, offering fans a visually captivating experience to complement the auditory journey of “Luck and Strange.”
