Evolve
Phish
Recorded in the fall of 2023 at Phishโs legendary studio, The Barn, Evolve marks the bandโs 16th studio album and showcases their ever-evolving sound. Produced by Grammy Award-winning Vance Powell and longtime collaborator Bryce Goggin, the album features 12 tracks that originated from the bandโs renowned live performances. As with many Phish albums, Evolve captures the energy and improvisational spirit that has made the band a live music institution.
Fan favorite “A Wave of Hope” stands out as one of the album’s highlights, offering a launching point for some of the bandโs most expansive improvisations in concert. The song has already become a staple in their live shows, reflecting Phishโs ability to seamlessly blend structured songwriting with spontaneous exploration. The album as a whole displays a band that, after four decades, continues to refine and expand their distinctive musical language.
The production on Evolve is crisp and focused, with Powell and Goggin bringing out the full range of Phishโs eclectic influences, from rock and funk to jazz and progressive elements. The result is an album that feels both polished and adventurous, capturing the essence of a band that is still pushing musical boundaries.
Released as a 2-LP set on stunning “Prismatic Velvet Tones” colored vinyl, Evolve is not just an auditory experience but a collectorโs item that celebrates Phishโs ongoing creative journey. Known for their vinyl releases, Phish has long catered to their fans with high-quality pressings that bring out the warmth and depth of their complex sound. Evolve is no exception, offering listeners a vivid soundscape that feels both familiar and refreshingly new.
Phish’s discography spans over 40 years, with highlights like Junta (1989), Rift (1993), and Fuego (2014), each showcasing different phases of their artistic development. Yet, with Evolve, the band continues to demonstrate that they are far from finished exploring new musical terrain.
