Smash
Offspring
Smash is the third studio album by American punk rock band The Offspring, released on April 8, 1994, by Epitaph Records.
The album was recorded at Track Record in North Hollywood, California, from October to December 1993, following the band’s tour in support of Ignition (1992).
Blending punk rock with elements of grunge, showcasing the band’s raw energy and rebellious spirit.
The album was a massive commercial success, selling over six million copies in the United States alone and earning 6x Platinum certification from the RIAA.
Globally, the album has sold more than 11 million copies, making it the best-selling album ever released on an independent label.
It peaked at number four on the US Billboard 200 and produced hit singles such as “Come Out and Play,” “Self Esteem,” and “Gotta Get Away.”
Critically, the album helped solidify the punk rock revival of the 1990s, alongside albums like Green Day’s Dookie and Rancid’s …And Out Come the Wolves.
Its success drew attention from major labels, and The Offspring signed with Columbia Records in 1996.
Interestingly, Smash is the only album where the band is credited as “Offspring,” without “The” in their name.
