Hiroshi Yoshimura
Hiroshi Yoshimura’s Surround, a sought-after ambient classic, receives its long-awaited reissue courtesy of Temporal Drift.
Originally released in January 1986, the album was commissioned by home builder Misawa Homes to enhance their living spaces.
Yoshimura, known for his pioneering work in environmental music, crafted Surround alongside the acclaimed GREEN (1986), described as his yin and yang by Hiroyoshi Shiokawa.
Recorded concurrently, Surround was designed to be experienced as a sonic amenity, akin to ambient sounds like footsteps or the hum of an air conditioner.
Yoshimura’s vision invites listeners to perceive Surround from new perspectives, perhaps even integrating city noise from outside the window.
